Suresh Deman-
Naferious Campaign against Krishna Kalpit. The tainted attack on his character should be stopped. My views are as follows:
SUBJECT MATTER & SUBSTANCE!
Subject: Public Statement on the Malicious Allegations and Character Assassination Campaign Against Mr. Krishna Kalpit
- Context and Purpose of Statement
This statement is issued in response to a series of unsubstantiated and defamatory claims circulating against Mr. Krishna Kalpit. The purpose of this comment is to express concern over the nature of the allegations and to underline the importance of due process, truth, and the protection of individual dignity in public discourse. - Substance of Allegations and Lack of Evidence
It is imperative to emphasise that in matters of serious public accusation, the subject matter and the substance of claims must coincide. That is, the gravity of the charge demands a proportional standard of evidence and transparency. In the case of Mr. Kalpit, despite the serious nature of the allegations, no verifiable evidence has been presented. Rather, the campaign appears to rely on innuendo and anecdotal assertion. - Personal Knowledge and Character Reference
I have known Mr. Kalpit since the late 1970s, when he was a postgraduate student at the University of Rajasthan and I was serving as a lecturer at Maharani’s College. During that time, he regularly participated in literary gatherings hosted at my residence, attended by academics, journalists, writers, and performers. Mr. Kalpit was known for his poetic talent and his refined, respectful behaviour. In fact, if any attention was exchanged, it was often directed towards him rather than instigated by him. - Cultural Context and Misinterpretation
Given Mr. Kalpit’s international exposure and broad intellectual profile, certain elements of his personality or mannerisms may be subject to misinterpretation, especially by those unfamiliar with cross-cultural norms. What might be deemed forward in one culture may be entirely unremarkable in another. It is essential not to conflate cultural variance with misconduct. - The Dangers of Presumption and Reputational Harm
The presumption of guilt, particularly when amplified by digital media without the safeguards of legal scrutiny, constitutes a dangerous trend that undermines both justice and free speech. I am concerned that Mr. Kalpit has already been subjected to a form of social conviction by individuals or groups motivated more by ideology than fact. Such behaviour amounts to character assassination and must be challenged. - Legal Remedy and Civil Discourse
Mr. Kalpit’s decision to issue a show cause notice for defamation is an appropriate and measured step, aimed at creating space for the truth to emerge within a legal framework. This approach should be respected by all parties as a responsible effort to restore factual integrity and protect individual rights. - Final Reflections
In closing, I unequivocally condemn the disparaging and unverified campaign against Mr. Krishna Kalpit. Those levelling accusations without substantiation should reflect upon the legal and moral implications of their actions. As George Bernard Shaw wisely observed, “They say. What do they say? Let them say.” And in the words of Oscar Wilde, “Apathy is the best form of aggression.” But let us remember: truth and justice are never served by silence or complicity.
