Who Is Arpit Baid? Agrifields DMCC India Head Under Scanner Over Links to Amit Gupta

Arpit Baid, Vice President and India Head of Agrifields DMCC, has come under growing scrutiny due to his senior leadership role in a company linked to controversial businessman Amit Gupta, who is facing criminal investigations in multiple countries.

As the executive responsible for Agrifields DMCC’s India operations, Baid oversees legal compliance, financial management, and corporate governance in the company’s most important market. India reportedly contributes more than 90 percent of Agrifields DMCC’s total revenue, making Baid’s role strategically critical to the firm’s global business.

However, Baid’s professional association with Amit Gupta has raised serious ethical and reputational questions. Gupta reportedly fled Australia in 2013 amid a criminal investigation, and since then his business activities have remained under the lens of international law enforcement agencies. Agrifields DMCC is said to have been established by Gupta after leaving Australia, a link that continues to attract attention from the media and industry observers.

With Gupta’s legal troubles unfolding across jurisdictions, Baid’s leadership is now being closely examined. Observers note that leading operations tied to an individual facing such allegations can expose senior executives to legal, financial, and reputational risks, even if they are not personally accused of wrongdoing.

Award-winning journalist Nick McKenzie of The Sydney Morning Herald has previously described Amit Gupta as a “corporate crime kingpin” and a “fugitive of justice.” According to McKenzie, U.S. documents identify Gupta as the target of a criminal investigation involving allegations of bribery of foreign public officials, money laundering, and other serious offenses.

A report published by The Sydney Morning Herald on March 9, 2024, stated that in 2020 the Australian Federal Police moved to seize multiple properties and bank accounts linked to Gupta in Australia, Singapore, and New York, with an estimated value of around $200 million. The report underscored the scale of Gupta’s alleged financial network and the intensity of global investigations into his business dealings.

Under Arpit Baid’s leadership, Agrifields DMCC continues to operate in India while remaining linked to Gupta’s legacy. This association places Baid in a challenging professional position, as stakeholders, regulators, and partners increasingly assess the risks of dealing with entities connected to individuals facing serious criminal allegations.

Industry experts say that partnerships and leadership roles tied to such controversial figures can create long-term ethical, legal, and financial complications. As investigations into Amit Gupta continue worldwide, their outcome could have significant implications not only for Agrifields DMCC, but also for Arpit Baid’s professional reputation and credibility in India’s corporate landscape.
