दिलीप मंडल विपश्यना से क्यों भागे?

दिलीप मंडल साहब विपश्यना सेंटर हो आए हैं। ऐतिहासिक घटना है। मंडल जी चमत्कारिक बुद्धि के स्वामी हैं। चमत्कारिक बुद्धि होते हुए भी उनमें विपश्यना की चाह पैदा हुई और वो किसी सेंटर में गए, ये मामूली घटना नहीं है। ये और बात है कि दिलीप मंडल साहब दस दिन विपश्यना सेंटर में नहीं टिक सके। चार दिन में वहां से भाग निकले। मगर मात्र चार दिन में ही वो निष्कर्ष पर पहुंच गए, इतने कम समय में सिर्फ वही निष्कर्ष पर पहुंच सकते हैं। औरों के बस की बात नहीं है!

यहां यह भी दर्ज करने योग्य बात है कि मंडल साहब ने अपने महत्वपूर्ण, ऐतिहासिक और अनमोल जीवन का जो चार दिन विपश्यना साधना को दिया है, ये विपश्यना पर बड़ा अहसान है। मानवता पर अहसान है।

इन चार दिनों में दिलीप मंडल साहब के बगैर दुनिया सुनी हो गई थी। लोगों के जीवन से मनोरंजन जैसे गायब हो गया था। वातावरण में उदासी छा गई थी। सेंटर में ध्यान लगाने के क्रम में दिलीप मंडल जी ने लोगों की इस पीड़ा को, वातावरण में फैली उदासी भांप ली और चार दिन बाद सेंटर से भाग निकले! उनका ये कदम मानवता पर एक नया कर्ज है।

मंडल साहब जैसे महान लोगों का हर कदम प्रेम, बंधुत्व और मानवता को मजबूत करने की दिशा में उठता है। उनका हर कदम एक त्याग है, तपस्या है, साधना है। वो विपश्यना सेंटर गए तो मानवता धन्य हुई। वो सेंटर से भागे तो भी मानवता ही धन्य हुई। इस दुनिया में दिलीप मंडल साहब जैसे इंसान कभी कभी जन्म लेते हैं। हमारे मंडल साहब इंसानों को भूसा खिलाने की क्षमता रखते हैं।

सबसे मजेदार मंडल साहब की निजी अकांक्षा है। उन्हें अपनी बेली (पेट, उदर) में और आग चाहिए। किसी को जिगर में आग चाहिए, किसी को सीने में। मंडल साहब अंग्रेज हैं, इसलिए उन्हें बेली (पेट, उदर) में चाहिए। लेकिन प्रश्न ये है ही नहीं कि आग कहां चाहिए? मशहूर शायर दुष्यंत कुमार कहा है कि “मेरे सीने में नहीं तो तेरे सीने में सही, हो कहीं भी आग लेकिन आग जलनी चाहिए”। मंडल साहब को बेली में आग चाहिए तो आग बेली में सही। यहां प्रश्न ये है कि आग कहां खोजिएगा? और इसी प्रश्न से साधारण और असाधारण का फर्क बयां होता है। मंडल साहब जैसे लोग बैल से दूध निकालने की क्षमता रखते हैं, इसलिए वो शांति वाली जगह पर आग खोजने पहुंचे थे!

हमारे मंडल साहब जरूरत और असंतोष को एक मानते हैं। दुनिया जरूरत को अविष्कार की जननी मानती है। हमारे मंडल साहब असंतोष को मानव उत्थान का सूत्र मानते हैं, लेकिन वो संतोष खोजने की जगह पर असंतोष खोजने गए थे। वो बंधनों में बंधा रहना चाहते हैं और बंधनों से मुक्ति पाने की जगह पर चले गए।

और इतनी उर्वरता काफी नहीं थी! वहां से चार दिन में भाग आने के बाद अपनी उर्वर बुद्धि का प्रदर्शन जरुरी था। वरना हास्य कैसे पैदा होता… इसलिए मंडल साहब ने बाहर निकल कर अंग्रेजी में एक लेख लिख कर क्रांति कर दी है। इस लेख में उन्होंने भागने की वजहें गिनायी हैं। महान लोग जब अपना पिछवाड़ा दिखाते हैं तो वो भी उनकी महानता का ही परिचय होता है। और पिछवाड़े का प्रदर्शन अंग्रेजी में हो तो कहना ही क्या!

मंडल साहब दिन प्रति दिन हास्यास्पद होते जा रहे हैं। हास्यास्पद होने के मामले में उन्होंने बाक़ियों से बाजी लगा ली है। एक अनोखा मुकाबला चल रहा है। और अपने मंडल साहब जिस हिसाब से बैटिंग कर रहे हैं मुझे लगता है कि जीत उनकी ही होगी!

The food was tasty — some dishes served were daliya, upma, rice and dal, and sabzi — “pure vegetarian” without garlic or onion. Essentially, it was Jain food in a Buddhist meditation camp. But it was also high in carbohydrates, which I had to reduce in my diet as per my doctor’s suggestion. So, the food in the camp became the first real problem for me….

…. we were mainly doing three things in the camp: Eating, inhaling and exhaling while tracking every breath, and sleeping.

…. My second problem was the restrictions on communication.

…. Owing to my limited understanding of Buddhist traditions, I believed that Buddha preached questioning everything — and nothing was beyond scrutiny, not even Buddha and his teachings.

…. I knew from my educational training how important the role of dissatisfaction and discontent is in human civilisation. Being dissatisfied, in fact, is everyone’s civilisational duty. We are here only because our ancestors were unsatisfied with living in caves.

…. I don’t subscribe to the idea of Vipassana that says we need to free ourselves from worldly attachments and affections (राग और मोह). This idea might be useful for others. I am an ordinary human being with many emotions and tendencies. Here, I am disclosing one of my secrets. I want to have more fire in my belly.

…. These meditation techniques claimed to cure many ailments. I don’t know if any study has been conducted to substantiate this. I consider this as truth unless proven otherwise.

…. Another significant problem for me was that exiting before course completion was difficult. Many times during the enrollment process, I was reminded that one must complete the course. In the course brochure, it was clearly written that the students would remain inside the camp for the entire duration and would not be allowed to leave in between. I found this violative of the fundamental right to move without restrictions.
