गृह मंत्रालय ने 10 केंद्रीय एजेंसियों को बिना किसी अदालती आदेश के शक की बिना पर ही भारत में मौजूद किसी भी कंप्यूटर के किसी भी डेटा को जांचने का अधिकार दिया। विरोध करने पर 7 साल की जेल होगी।
बोले तो भले ही आप पर कोई आरोप न हो, आप ईमानदार टैक्स पेयर हों- कभी कोई ट्रैफिक नियम तक न तोड़ा हो- सरकार आपके कम्प्यूटर (उसमें स्मार्टफोन भी आते हैं!) में मौजूद कुछ भी पढ़ सकती है- चाहे आपकी ईमादार जमा संपत्ति के बारे में हो या आपकी मायके गई अपनी पत्नी से शरारती बातचीत!
पर सरकार ऐसा क्यों करेगी? क्योंकि ऐसा करने पर विरोध के ही नहीं, पार्टी के भीतर भी असहमति के स्वर वालों को दबाना आसान हो जायेगा!

All your mobile smartphones are computers under the Information Technology Act, 2000. It defines computers as:
‘computer means any electronic, magnetic, optical or other high-speed data processing device or system which performs logical, arithmetic, and memory functions by manipulations of electronic, magnetic or optical impulses, and includes all input, output, processing, storage, computer software or communication facilities which are connected or related to the computer in a computer system or computer network;‘
And computer resource as: ’computer resource means computer, computer system, computer network, data, computer data base or software’
