Lucknow . Senior advocate Mr Prateek Rai has written to election commission of India to consider covering or dismantlling cycle signs on cycle tracks built by Akhilesh Yadav govt. He said that one can see hundreds of cycle signs erected in Lucknow, Noida, Etawa and other cities. Now cycle is election symbol of Samajvadi Party. Thus this is against model code of conduct.
Mr Rai has cited example of 2012 election when election commission orderd covering statues of elephants and Mayavati. Because elephant was election symbol of BSP and it violated code of conduct. Mr Rai’s letter and links given to ECI are as follows…
Mr Election Commissioner
Govt of India, Delhi
Subject: regarding influencing UP elections and violating Code of Conduct issued by ECI
Dear Sir
I want to draw your attention towards huge cycle tracks recently built by Uttar Pradesh Government of Akhilesh Yadav. It was inaugurated by him before election schedule was announced. On this cycle track hundreds of sign boards were erected showing Cycle and Chief Minister. Every person knows that this cycle is election symbol of samajwadi party, one of the political parties now in elections. This track was built knowingly to take advantage during elections. No doubt it will do, if it stands as it is.
Each and every citizen is aware about an order passed during 2012 UP elections when on the instance of Honourable High Court election commission passed an order to cover statues of elephants and Mayawati, the BSP leader. It was thought then that elephants will influence the elections. Today history is on the same path. Cycle is Akhilesh’s election symbol. We saw all the posters and banners were torn out after election was announced by ECI but Cycles under SP’s flag colours erected on hundreds of places on roads and highways in Lucknow, Noida, Etawa and other cities are still doing samajwadi party’s job. This is against order of High Court and Eci code of Conduct also.
Please order to either dismantle it or cover it throughout Uttar Pradesh in order to defend your earlier order and show the people that law is the same for everyone. If you act on this matter I will be grateful to you.
Yours
Prateek Rai
