आईपीएस अफसर अमिताभ ठाकुर के नेतृत्व में सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता डॉ नूतन ठाकुर, देवेन्द्र दीक्षित, त्रिपुरेश त्रिपाठी, शरद मिश्रा, राकेश शर्मा, हयात कादरी, संदीप सिंह आदि गाँधी प्रतिमा, हजरतगंज पर क्रिमिनल कंटेम्प्ट ऑफ़ कोर्ट के विरोध में एकत्र हुए.
इस एक्ट को ब्रिटिशकालीन और अनुपयोगी बताते हुए उन्होंने कहा कि इसका अधिकतर दुरुपयोग होते हुए ही देखा गया है। जब किसी व्यक्ति या मीडिया को किसी जज के खिलाफ वाजिब और सच्ची टिप्पणी करनी होती है. उन्होंने कहा कि इस एक्ट के भय से न्यायपालिका की तमाम सच्चाइयां सामने नहीं आ रही हैं और अंदरखाने के कई गलत आचरण लोग डर के कारण नहीं कह पा रहे हैं.
उन्होंने कहा कि हाल में सलमान खान के मामले में बॉम्बे हाई कोर्ट द्वारा दी गयी जमानत के बाद तमाम लोग बहुत खुल कर बहुत कुछ कहना चाह रहे हैं पर इसी क़ानून के डर के कारण नहीं कह पा रहे हैं. ठाकुर ने कहा कि न्यायपालिका की सच्चाई को सामने ला कर उसमें आवश्यक सुधार के लिए नितांत जरुरी है कि कंटेम्प्ट ऑफ़ कोर्ट एक्ट समाप्त किया जाए. साथ ही इन लोगों ने सलमान खान मामले में दी गयी जमानत के प्रति अपनी अप्रसन्नता व्यक्त करते हुए सुप्रीम कोर्ट को इसे रद्द करने के लिए प्रत्यावेदन भेजा.

Calling the Act colonial and outdated, they said it is being mostly misused when a person or Media tries to bring any valid or truthful fact against a Judge. They said that many irregularities in judiciary are not coming in open because of the fear of this archaic act.
They said that many people want to show their open resentment and state many facts about the recent grant of bail to Salman Khan by Bombay High Court but are not being able to express themselves merely because of fear of this Act.
Sri Thakur said it is imperative to repeal this Act in the interest of judiciary so as to help get true feedback out judicial functioning. These people also sent a representation to the Supreme Court showing their displeasure with Salman Khan bail, praying to get the bail quashed.
