हिंदुस्तान टाइम्स में मेरे खिलाफ ”Barmer man turns RTI into a business, authorities struggle to find fault” शीर्षक से प्रकाशित न्यूज इस प्रकार है….
Barmer man turns RTI into a business, authorities struggle to find fault
THE RTI MIDDLEMAN CHARGES` 15 FOR INFO THAT WOULD OTHERWISE COST` 2
BARMER: On sale in Rajasthan’s Barmer district are government documents dug up with the help of Right to Information Act (RTI). An RTI activist has put up an advertisement, asking people to contact him for any kind of official record from gram panchayats in the district. The document he gets through RTI route is sold to information-seekers, at a premium.
RTI middleman Sumerlal Sharma of Barmer calls himself a whistleblower, has an office outside the court campus in Balotra and is amazingly fast — he gets you the documents within 2 hours, sparing one the official 30-day wait for official response.
When Hindustan Times contacted Sharma, he said he could get hold of any type of official records for the past fifteen years in gram panchayats through RTI. However, through Sharma, a page of the document will cost ` 15. If you had done it yourself, the documents would have cost you ` 2 a page.
Sabal Singh Bhati, a resident of Harsani village of Barmer district, said he had contacted Sumerlal Sharma for the official record of Harsani gram panchayats. Bhati said Sharma provided the records he asked for in an hour at ` 15 per page.Officials believe putting up RTI documents for sale is an offence, but were at loss to explain what law Sharma broke.
Barmer district collector Madhusudan Sharma said when the Act was approved even lawmakers wouldn’t have anticipated such a misuse. Sharma said he would look into the matter and take appropriate action. Chief executive officer of Barmer zila parishad Gopalram Birda said that as per his knowledge, government record couldn’t be sold this way. He was misusing the act.
