मित्रों, प्रेस क्‍लब ऑफ इंडिया के चुनाव में केवल एक दिन शेष है। शनिवार 1 अक्‍टूबर को मतदान होगा। ऐसे में अब तक सामने आए पैनलों से जो चुनावी तस्‍वीर उभर रही है, वह काफी भ्रमित करने वाली है। एक तरफ़ तथाकथित ‘आधिकारिक’ पैनल है (गौतम लाहिड़ी-विनय सिंह) जिसे पिछली प्रबंधन समिति के नीति-निर्माताओं का समर्थन प्राप्‍त है, जिसके ऊपर वरिष्‍ठ सदस्‍य और प्रगतिशील लेखक संघ के महासचिव रहे अली जावेद के खिलाफ कार्रवाई करने का आरोप है और जिसने बीते कुछ वर्षों में प्रेस क्‍लब के महासचिव का पद एक सीईओ के समानांतर बनाकर सदस्‍यता जैसी सामान्‍य प्रक्रिया को भी अपारदर्शी व प्रच्‍छन्‍न बनाने का काम किया है।

वरिष्ठ पत्रकारों और मित्रों को नमस्कार, प्रेस क्लब का सदस्य होने के नाते मुझे लगा कि ये वक्त उचित है कि आप सभी से संवाद किया जाए। प्रेस क्लब चुनाव के सिलसिले में मुझे कई मेल मिले हैं। काफी तल्ख और आरोप प्रत्यारोप हैं। मीडिया में काम करने का मुझे गर्व है और सुकून होता है कि तमाम आरपोरेट कारपोरेट ..अल्ले बल्ले दल्ले आरोपों के बावजूद इस पेशे से जुड़े साथी अपने सामाजिक सरोकारों को कही ना कही किसी ना किसी तरह से निभाने की पूरी कोशिश करते हैं।

Journalism means expressing dissent and speaking truth to power. Alas! The Press Club Of India has lost this very essence. In the lust for power, all ethics and morality, even professional wisdom is being negotiated with in the current elections for PCI, New Delhi. The recent move by one brave journalist to dissociate himself from his panel at the last moment exposes grave corruption embedded in the the moral sphere of scribes who have formed convenient rainbow coalitions, convenienty called panels, to grab the small power centre that operates from 1, Raisina Road, New Delhi. This election however was a farce from the very beginning. Let us take some time to read this before we go to vote on October 1st, 2016.

In its sixty-odd years of history, this organization has, very much like the nation itself, been through many changes, both lofty highs and steep lows. In its halcyon days, the Club was a professional place where journalists, and only journalists, turned in to not only hone their professional skills and enrich their intellectual quotient, but also to rest and recreate with the best of the ale that’s available in town, and at affordable prices.
